Solar Model # 6

INTRODUCTION

There are nine planets, a sun, and rocks called asteroids in our universe and here we will tell you about them.

MARS

Mars is probably the only planet we could land people on. Scientists expect us to land humans on Mars sometime in the next 25 years. To land on Mars we would need to wear space suits. The space suits would protect us from the low gravity, ultra-violet rays, harsh temperatures, dust storms, and they’d give us oxygen since Mars only has carbon dioxide and we can’t breath that.
Mars is one of the only planets that has volcanoes. It is known for having the largest peak in the solar system, Olympus Mons.
Mars has two planets, Phobos and Deimos. Phobos is the closer and the larger of the two.
The Marsian day is a little over 24 hours long. It also has seasons, like us. Mars’ diameter is 6,794 km and it is 228 million km from the sun.

ASTEROIDS

Between 1801 and 1807 astronomers discovered four small objects between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Over the next 80 years astronomers found 300 more of these objects called asteroids. They are too small and too many to be considered full sized planets. Astronomers have found more than 10,000 asteroids and find more every month. Most asteroids are found between Jupiter and Mars’s orbit. Scientists believe a giant asteroid might have come into the Earth and killing the dinosaurs.

SATURN

Saturn is the second largest planet in the solar system.  The thing that makes Saturn famous is its rings. The rings are made of ice and rock.
Saturn has eight moons Titan is its biggest moon. Overall Saturn is a pretty planet.

URANUS

Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun. Although Uranus is 4 times bigger than Earth, Jupiter is still much bigger than Uranus.
One thing that’s weird about Uranus is it has rings on it and it rotates on its side.  Uranus has five moons and it’s made of blue gas.  Uranus is a pretty planet.

JUPITER

Jupiter is the largest planet, and it has 300 times the mass of earth. It is a gas planet, and it’s atmosphere is thick and made up mostly of hydrogen. In it’s atmosphere there is a storm called the Great Red Spot, which is much larger than earth.
Jupiter has seventeen moons. Jupiter’s largest moon is Ganymede, which is twice as big as earth’s moon. Its surface is icy and crater covered.
Jupiter takes twelve earth years to orbit the sun and rotates on its axis once every 0.41 earth days. It is 142,800 kilometers in diameter and is 778,000,000 kilometers from the sun.

NEPTUNE

Neptune has eight moons. Neptune’s largest moon’s South Pole is covered with a cap of ice.
There is a big dark spot in Neptune’s atmosphere it is a giant storm. In 1989 Voyager 2 flew by Neptune, where it photographed a Great Dark Spot.

EARTH

Earth; the planet of which we live, is the only known planet with water and life. The atmosphere id more than 100 km above Earth’s surface. Twenty percent of Earth’s gases is oxygen. Seventy percent is covered with water.
Earth has three layers: The outer layer is called the crust. Then comes the mantle, then the cores. The inner core is made of iron and nickel; and the outer core is made of liquid. The mantle is hot molten rock.
Earth’s diameter in kilometers is 12, 756. It’s distance from the sun is about 150,000,000km. Earth has only one moon, when some have as many as 19. The Earth has many fascinating features. Some are where large asteroids have hit the surface and made holes. Others are oceans, Grand Canyon, coral reefs, and Mount Everest. There are many fascinating features just outside.
