Message from Our Principal | Mission Statement | Our Philosophy | About the PTO |
Dear Parents and Students:
We hope that the school year
will be one of positive and meaningful learning experiences for your child. As a
parent, you are your child's first and most important teacher. You set the stage
and provide the social, emotional, and motivational pr props for what we do each
day in school. This year we will, as a school, in addition to academics, be
working on the following skills which we feel are critical for children to be
productive and successful throughout their lives:
Working together, your child will learn and grow to his or her fullest potential.
The Binford Elementary staff, in partnership with parents and the community, challenges each student to develop his/her individual abilities to become a productive, life long learner.
Binford's Goals are:
Goal #1: The Math Curriculum develops successful and productive life long learners who make decisions by utilizing effective reasoning and problem solving strategies.
Goal #2: Students increase proficiency in reading and understanding a wide variety of materials.
Goal #3: Students use the writing process to become more proficient writers throughout the content areas.
Goal #4: The developmental level of each student is addressed through appropriate curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Goal #5: Student achievement increases as a result of a structure that supports communication about concepts, projects, and events within and across grade levels and special area subjects.
At Binford we believe that each child has value and that every child can learn. We are dedicated to establishing an environment in which each child will be given an opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential in the academic, social/emotional, physical and personal domains while nurturing the creative instincts in each child.
We believe that the primary purpose of an elementary education is to provide the opportunity for children to acquire a basic academic foundation for use in later educational endeavors. This elementary education should be the beginning of an educational process that prepares students for future challenges by developing the ability to make intelligent decisions and to problem-solve effectively. An elementary education should ensure that each student gains in positive self-esteem and should increase the probability that each child will become a contributing member of society.
In recognition of the fact that our school is part of a democratic society, Bin ford encourages respect for each other's rights and ideas, provides opportunities for shared decision making, and teaches cooperation in a competitive environment.
It is our belief that parents, teachers, administrators, and students must work closely together as partners if the educational process is going to be a success.
Our school will have an active Rogers/Binford PTO this year. Each grade level has a parent representative on the PTO Board. In addition, each school has an at-large parent member. The PTO Board also includes 2 teachers from each school as well as the principals of each school. The PTO meets once a month during the school year, alternating between the libraries at Rogers and Binford. All parents are welcome to attend any or all meetings. Meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday beginning at 6:30 pm. Please check your PTO Newsletter, sent home within the first few days of each month for date, time, and place. Fpr fiurther information, please visit the official Rogers Binford PTO website.
